David Bagoole reveals story behind Tong Po haircut

David Bagoole is not only one of the best creative midfielders in Uganda but also famous for his unique hairstyle dubbed as “Tong Po”.

The Busoga United maestro revealed the story for shaving all but the back part of his head in an interview with The StarTimes Uganda Premier League Show on 102.1 Fufa FM.

” I wanted to be unique and it took me close to three weeks while thinking of doing something very different. I was half-hearted after i made the haircut and spent a week with a head gear covering it.

” So one day, my mother asked me why I had never removed the head gear for that long and when I unveiled my new cut to her, she seemed okay with it which gave me courage to maintain it from that day onwards.”
He said.

Because of his haircut, Bagoole has been christened as “Tong Po” in relation to the famous martial arts fighter who acted villain in Van Damme’s kickboxer movie.

Bagoole’s scintillating performance has produced two goals and three assists in Busoga United’s last seven games.

During the same interview, Bagoole revealed how he started his footballing career and how he was inspired by his elder brother the late Johnson Bagoole (RIP).

Bagoole said former Vipers midfielder Patrick Sembuya is the toughest opponent he has ever faced while BUL’s 3-0 win over Express in February 2017 is his best game so far.

He started his career with Busembatya Town Council in the first division from where he joined BUL FC and later played for SC Villa, Sofapaka, La Passe FC in Seychelles and CD Bukavu Dawa of DR. Congo.
