This follows an emergency meeting held on Monday May 4th at the Federation Headquarters.

2018-19 League winners Rahimo FC will represent the West African nation in the 2020-21 CAF Champions League while Salitas FC will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Before the cancellation, Salitas FC were leading the league table with 51 points accumulated from 24 games, six points clear of second placed Majestic FC.

Rahimo FC were third with 41 points while the Burkina Faso Cup was halted at the quarter final stage.

It should be noted that Football was suspended in Burkina Faso on April 8th in a bid to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

The 2020-21 Burkinabe Premier League season will have 18 teams competing unlike the previous 16 since two teams had already won promotion from the second tier before football was halted. The two newbies are Speed FC and The Lions of Saint Camille.

The emergency meeting also revealed that players whose contracts were bound to expire at the end of the season will be declared free agents.

Burkina Faso joined Mauritius, Angola and Guinea as countries who have already cancelled their respective leagues with no champions due to the pandemic.

The Kenyan Federation already declared Gor Mahia champions with 10 rounds to play.

As of 5th May, Burkina Faso has registered a total of 672 coronavirus positive cases, 545 recoveries and 46 deaths.
