Uganda hippos and Lesotho played out to a barren stalemate in the semifinals of U-20 Cosafa tournament in Zambia.

The hippos were the dominant side from the start though failing to capitalise on the few opportunities they had in the first period.

Matia Lule’s side were also forced into early substitutions in the first 45 minutes with players Steven Mukwala and David Owori off through injuries and replaced by Allan Okello and Mujahid Ogama.

Enter the second half, the hippos continued dominating in possession but couldn’t find a few through a well organized Lesotho defence.

Tactician Matia Lule later introduced on Pius Obuya for Frank Tumwesigye. After a goalless draw the game was to be decided on a shoot out that saw Lesotho emerging victors 6-5 on penalties.

Muhammad Shaban, Mustafa Mujuzi and Victor Matovu were all booked for Matia Lule’s side.

Baden Mujahid Ogama was the culprit for missing a penalty kick while Geoffrey Wasswa, Julius Poloto, Pius Obuya and Allan Okello all scored their spot kicks for the hippos.

Lesotho will now play South Africa in the final on Saturday whereas Uganda hippos will have to settle for a third place play off with fellow tournament guests Egypt tomorrow.
