COSAFA U-17 winning heroines return to Uganda

The Uganda U-17 Girls team received a heroic return on Tuesday afternoon following their triumph at the 2019 COSAFA U-17 event in Mauritius.

The Ayub Khalifa coached team cruised 2-1 passed South Africa in final on Sunday courtesy of goals from Fauzia Najjemba and skipper Juliet Nalukenge.

FUFA Football Development Director Ali Mwebe welcomed the team at Entebbe International Airport at 1pm and before they were hosted at Jevine Hotel for a luncheon.

Acting FUFA President Justus Mugisha hailed the players and coaches

“I thank the players, coaches for the success rendered to us. We are very happy that Women football has started to yield and we are committed to continue developing the game to have a brighter future.” Mugisha said.

Each player was given a pair of boots while their respective schools were awarded goal post nets.

Winning captain Nalukenge finished as the leading goal scorer with 18 goals while Daphine Nyayenga was named the tournament’s best goalie.

Uganda who were the guest nation in competition played five games and scored a record 46 goals.

Goalkeepers: Nyayenga Daphine (GK) (Uganda Martyrs HS), Namusisi Joan (GK) (Mukono HS), and Nasasira Gift (GK) (Gadafi Integrated).

Defenders: Akadinda Gilian (Olila HS), Atwine Precious (Upper Hill College), Musibika Stella (Kawempe Muslim SS), Akiror Patricia (Masaka SS) and Kabarwani Cissy (King of Kings).

Midfielders: Namaganda Zaitun (Taggy High School), Komuntale Sumayah (King of Kings), Nadunga Bira (Olila HS), Nakachwa Kevin (Uganda Martyrs HS), Nangonzi Maureen (Mukono HS), and Nakachwa Samali (Kawempe Muslim SS).

Forwards: Nalukenge Juliet (Kawempe Muslim SS) Najjemba Fauzia (Mukono High School), Nagadya Catherine (Katuuso Community SS), Kunihira Margret (Kawempe Muslim), Nyinagahirwa Shakira (Kawempe Muslim SS), and Nandago Hadijah (Kawempe Muslim SS)
