COSAFA U-17 : Free-scoring Uganda book berth in final after thumping Botswana 12-0

The Uganda U-17 girls team became the first team to book a place in the COSAFA U-17 final after obliterating Botswana 12-0 in the first semi final played on Friday.

The Ayub Khalifa coached team registered a double figure score for the third time in the tournament played in Port Luis, Mauritius.

Fauzia Najjemba scored six goals while captian Juliet Nalukenge and Margret Kunihira grabbed a hat trick each to ensure a comprehensive victory.

Ayub made only one change from the line up that started in the previous game against Comoros with Katuuso’s Catherine Nagadya replacing Samalie Nakachwa of Kawempe Muslim.

For the third time in the tournament,, Kunihira opened the scores for Uganda inside the first 10 minutes.

Captain Juliet Nalukenge collected her 3rd match day ball

Nalukenge made it 3-0 with a brace with her first goal coming in the 14th minute and another 10 minutes later.

Kunihira stretched the scoreline to 4-0 with a brilliant solo effort in the 35th minute.

Najjemba ensured Uganda go to the mandatory halftime break with a 6-0 lead after scoring twice in the last seven minutes of the first half.

Come into the second period, Najjemba and Nalukenge completed their hat tricks in the first three minutes making it 8-0.

At 8-0, Nagadya was rested for Kawempe’s Hadija Nandago in the 50th minute.

Eight minutes later, Kunihira also completed her hat trick with a penalty kick after being brought down in the box.

Defender Bira Nadunga was also brought off for Cissy Kabarwani at the hour mark.

Two minutes later Najjemba made it 10-0 with her fourth goal of the game.

The Kampala Queens newly signed striker scored twice in the 65th and 82nd minute to complete the rout.

Kunihira was named the player of the match while all the three scorers were given a ball each for scoring more than two goals in the game.

Uganda will play against South Africa and Botswana who play against each other in the second semi final.
