COSAFA 2019: U-17 goalkeeper named in Cranes squad

Uganda Cubs goalkeeper Jack Komakech has been included in the Cranes 34-man provisional squad for the 2019 COSAFA tournament to be held in Durban, South Africa.

Komakech was summoned on the account of wonderful performance in the recently concluded U-17 AFCON in Tanzania.

The novice custodian is a product of Gulu based Football For Good academy and turns out for Ndejje University Junior team in the FUFA Juniors League.

The provisional squad submitted to COSAFA by Uganda consists of 11 players who are also named in the AFCON bound provisional squad that is Moses Waiswa, Allan Okello, Timothy Awany, Ibrahim Sadam Juma, Allan Kyambadde, Patrick Henry Kaddu, Halid Lwaliwa among others.

The team will be coached by Abdallah Mubiru assisted by Morley Byekwaso and goalkeepers coach Sadiq Wassa while former Cranes captain Geoffrey Massa will be the team’s coordinator.

The 34-man squad will be trimmed to the required 22 for the tournament.

Uganda received a bye through the quarterfinals where they take on Lesotho at the Princess Magogo stadium on June 1st.

The winner between Uganda and Lesotho will face either South Africa or Botswana while the losers will drop to the Plate competition.
