Coronavirus halts Airtel Kabaka birthday run, Volleyball festival

The Buganda Kingdom has officially announced the postponement of the this year’s Kabaka birthday run due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual event is celebrated to mark Kabaka Ronald Mutebi II birthday. This year’s run was due to take place on 5th April 2020.

Children’s games in Lubiri (20th March 2020), Kabaka Volleyball festival which were scheduled for 27th to 29th March at the KCCA grounds in Kampala, Kabaka Squash birthday tournament slated for 2nd April 2020 at Kampala Club and the official launch of the Bika Bya Baganda championship are the other activities severely affected.

“We have decided to put on hold a number of Buganda Kingdom activities that include sports events like the Airtel Kabaka birthday run, Squash and Volleyball festival. This follows the government ban on all public gatherings that was announced by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday as a precaution to overcome the spreading of Coronavirus in the country.”

Football, basketball, rugby, hockey, athletics, badminton, chess, Table tennis, boxing, volleyball, cricket, woodball, the corporate league among others have been severely affected.
