It Was Joshua Cheptegei that won Uganda the first medal and the first gold in the 2018 Commonwealth games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Joshua won the gold in the 5000m race and since then he seem to have kept the fire burning hence winning another gold in the 10,000m race.

In a race of 8 runners, the Ugandan proved too strong for his competitors smashing a home record of 27 min 19.62sec .

Once again Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed came so close to dethroning the Ugandan but Joshua was a better man sending the Canadian into 2nd place while Kenya’s Rodgers Kwemoi settled for a bronze in 3rd place.

Joshua joins Moses Kipsiro as the only Ugandans to ever win a double of gold at the Commonwealth games one in the 5000 and another in the 10000m.

Kipsiro created his legacy in 2010 in New Delhi, India when he shook off Eliud Kipchoge at the line for the 5000m gold and bettered Daniel Salel in the 10000m.

Earlier on today morning another Ugandan in boxing, Miro Juma secured a bronze after reaching the semi finals and losing to India’s Amit Panghal by unanimous decision in a flyweight bout.
