Joshua Cheptegei joins a list of Ugandans who have secured gold in various sports disciplines at the Commonwealth games.

The 21 year old won a gold in the 5000m in the ongoing Gold Coast , Australia Commonwealth games 2018.

Joshua didn’t show zeal when the whistle was blown and you could easily write him but he changed the rhythm in the last 5 of 12.5 laps.

He then dominated the race beating Mohammed Ahmed the Canadian who put up a stiff competition in th final laps but still came second to Joshua.

Cheptegei improved his records after settling for silver in the 10,000m last year in the World Championships.

Cheptegei’s gold came with action packed 13:50.83 record while 2nd placed Mohammed Ahmed did his thing in 13:52:78, Kenya’s Zakayo Edwards ran with the bronze at 13:54.06 while Ayeko Thomas came fourth at 13:54.78.

Joshua’s name joins a list of Ugandan Athletes who have won gold at the Commonwealth games like Dorcus Inzikuru, Boniface Kiprop and Moses Kipsiro who won 3 golds at two different occasions in 2 different races.
