Cheptegei voted USPA’s best sports personality of February

Joshua Cheptegei has been voted as the Nile Special Personality of the month of February.

This was during the Uganda Sports Press Association general meeting held on Monday morning at Imperial Royale Hotel.

The 10000m world champion broke the 5Km world record on 16th February with a time of 12 minutes 51 seconds during the Monaco run.

The race was the second edition and the Ugandan improved on Kenyan Rhonex Kipruto’s previous of 13min 18 seconds in Valencia, Spain earlier in January this year.

Cheptegei garnered 465 points to beat Juliet Chekwel who was second with 300 points. Swimmer Kirabo Namutebi finished third with 270 points.

Bombers captain, Shadir Musa qualified for this year’s Olympic games during a box off on Saturday last week came fourth with 265 points.

For starters, Chekwel who was voted second won the Zurich Marathon that was held in Seville, Spain on 23rd February 2020.

With the time of 2:23:13, she set a new national record in the women’s marathon, set a new course record and also booked a ticket to Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.
