Group B table leaders DR Congo have suffered another blow after three more players tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of their final game with Niger.
The three include goalkeeper Nathan Mabruki Tshumu who featured in the previous game when team captain Ley Matampi was absent.
Motema Pembe midfielder William Likuta and Ricky Tulenge Sindani of AS Vita Club are the other two players who have tested positive.
This comes five days after five team members in the DR Congo camp were ruled out of their most recent game against Libya because of COVID-19.
The five included coach Florent Ibenge, goalkeeper Ley Matampi who also serves as the team captain, Doxa Gikanji, Guy Mulamba (another goalkeeper) and Andy Lobulka.
The two time champions will have to negotiate past a stubborn Niger side if they are to book a place in the quarter finals. They have four points and a draw can seal see them through.
Three of their goalkeepers have tested positive which leaves Siadi Ngusia Baggio as the only recognized shot stopper available in the team.
DR Congo won their first game 1-0 against neighbors Congo Brazzaville before drawing 1-1 with Libya thanks to Masasi Obenza’s late stunner.
Libya will play against Congo Brazzaville in the other game. Should Libya fail to win, DR Congo will automatically qualify irrespective of their result against Niger.
