Kenya’s Vihiga Queens became the first CECAFA region team to take part in the CAF Women’s Champions League but fell short of qualifying for the semi finals after finishing bottom on the Group B table.

Heading into the final group game, Vihiga Queens had a glorious opportunity to reach the semis as they took on Nigeria’s Rivers Angels, a side that had lost the first two games.

However, Vihiga Queens lost 4-0 to the Nigerians with all goals coming in the second half and agonizingly crushed out of the tournament.

The three time Kenya champions had lost their first game 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa before winning 2-0 against Morocco’s AS FAR Rabat.

Crested Cranes and former Asubo Gafford Ladies midfielder Joan Anita Nabirye featured in all the three games for CECAFA champions.

Sundowns and AS FAR Rabat qualified for the semi finals with seven and four points respectively.

Sundowns will take on Equatorial Guinea’s Malabo Kings FC while FAR Rabat will face Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies.

Both games will be played on Monday November 15th at the El Salaam Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.
