Uganda Kobs opened their CECAFA U23 Challenge Cup campaign with a goalless draw against guests DR Congo in a 1pm kick off at the Bahir Dar International Stadium.
Uganda were forced into a first half substitution after winger Steven Sserwadda picked an injury in the 38th minute and his place was taken by Bright Anukani.
Morley Byekwaso introduced Najib Yiga and Sam Ssenyonjo for strikers Derrick Kakooza and Steven Mukwala in the 60th minute in a bid to break the deadlock.
Early in the first half, Kakooza failed to finish off Enock Walusimbi’s ball in what proved to be the best chance of the game.
SC Villa duo of Abdallah Salim and Sadam Masereka was introduced for Julius Poloto and Karim Watambala respectively 15 minutes later.
Uganda will shift focus to the next game against Tanzania on Sunday 25th July at the same venue.
The best placed team in the group will automatically qualify for the semi finals.
