Kenya’s U23 side Emerging Stars beat Djibouti 3-0 to enhance chances of qualifying for the CECAFA U23 Challenge Cup semi finals.
John Njuguna, Reagan Otieno and Benson Omalla were all on target for the Stanley Okumbi coached team.
Ulinzi Stars striker John Njuguna scored the opener for Kenya in the 11th minute with a stunning strike.
Reagan Otieno and substitute Benson Omalla added on headers in the 64th and 88th minutes respectively.
Stanley Okumbi lauded his charges for the solid performance and quickly shifted focus to the next game.
“It is a good way to start a tournament, but we need to prepare well for our next game against South Sudan because they are a good side,” said Okumbi.
Kenya will face South Sudan in their second match of the tournament on Wednesday at the Bahir Dar International Stadium with hopes of sealing the semi final berth.
The first game of the day saw Uganda settle for a goalless draw with DR Congo in Group A.
