CECAFA U20 Women’s Championship: Uganda take table leadership after annihilating Djibouti

Action resumes on Wednesday with Matchday three where Tanzania will play against Ethiopia, Eritrea will face Uganda while Burundi will be up against Djibouti.

• Tanzania 3-2 Burundi

Uganda, Ethiopia and Tanzania picked up second successive victories as the match day 2 of the CECAFA U20 Women’s Championship took center stage at Njeru.

Uganda were the biggest winners of the day after walloping Djibouti 13-0 in the early kick off.

Skipper Fauzia Najjemba led by example as she scored six goals on the day.

Hadija Nandago grabbed a brace while Catherine Nagadya, Asia Nakibuuka, Shakira Nyinagahirwa, Shamira Nalugya and substitute Zaitun Namaganda netted one apiece.

The victory subsequently took Uganda to the summit of the group with six points and a superior goal difference of (+17) having beaten Burundi 5-1 on Saturday.

The second game of the day saw Ethiopia thump neighbors Eritrea 6-0 thanks to Ridet Assrasanang who netted a brace while Turist Lema, Mesay Temesgen and Bizuayehu Tadesse got one apiece.

The last game of day saw Tanzania stage a thrilling comeback to overcome Burundi 3-2.

Burundi got the lead in the 14th minute through Estella Gakima while Tanzania equalized through Seif Mwanamvua Haruna’s penalty at the hour mark.

Burundi restored their lead through Nshimiramana Annociatte’s free kick in the 78th minute but Tanzania scored two late goals to win all three points.

Clara Cleitus Luvanga equalized in the 81st minute before Emeliana Isaya Mbimu scored a long range winning goal from just after the center line three minutes from normal time.

Ethiopia are second on the table with a goal difference of (+13) while Tanzania have also collected six points but with an inferior goal difference of (+2).
