Uganda Hippos thrashed Burundi 6-1 to register their first win in the CECAFA U20 Challenge Cup during a group B clash on Wednesday at the Shiekh Amri Abeid Stadium, Arusha.
Ivan Bogere and Isma Mugulusi scored braces apiece with Najib Yiga and second half substitute Joseph Kizza Bukenya to earn the Hippos an emphatic victory.
Yiga gave the Hippos an early lead in the 6th minute before Bogere doubled their advantage at the stroke of halftime.
Early in the second half, Bogere made it 3-0 from the spot following a hand ball in the forbidden area.
Mugulusi scored fourth and fifth goals before Bukenya completed the riout.
Burundi also found a late consolation through Kevin Icoyitungiye deep in stoppage time.
The Hippos have now garnered four points in two games they have played in group B. The top placed team advances to the semifinals.
