SC Villa Junior team defender Kizito Gavin Mugweri has been named the new captain of the national U-17 team (the Cubs) ahead of the CECAFA U-17 championships to be held in Burundi.
Kizito will be deputised by Vipers Junior team midfielder Gerald Kirya.
The Cubs who flew out of the country Thursday evening will be participating in third ever edition of the CECAFA U-17 Championships.
The team is under the tutelage of Peter Onen who is deputised by Hamza Lutalo and Mubarak Kiberu who serves as the goalkeeping coach.
The Cubs are pitted in Group B and will kick start it’s campaign against Tanzania tomorrow 15th April at Muyinga before taking on Sudan on Wednesday 18th April and Zanzibar on Sunday 22nd.
The tournament will kick off today with the hosts Burundi taking on Kenya in a match to be officiated by Uganda center referee William Oloya.
