CECAFA Kagame Cup: KCCA lands fair draw, Express pitted against Yanga

Ugandan representatives KCCA FC and Express FC have today afternoon learnt their CECAFA Kagame Cup opponents.

KCCA who are also the defending champions have been drawn in Group A alongside Burundi champions Le Messager Ngozi and Zanzibar’s KMKM FC.

Le Messager Ngozi won a domestic double in Burundi last season after clinching both the Primus League and the President Nkurunziza Cup.

Uganda Premier League champions Express are pitted in Group C alongside Yanga Africans and guests Big Bullets from Malawi.

Express will be marking their first appearance in the regional tournament after eight years. Their last appearance was in the 2013 edition in Sudan.

Yanga are runners up of Tanzania’s Vodacom Premier League as well as the Federation Cup. They lost both titles to rivals Simba SC.

Group B consists of Azam FC, South Sudan’s Atlabara FC and Kenya’s Tusker FC.

Azam is home to Uganda Cranes duo of Nicholas Wadada and goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya while Atlabara is the club coached by former Vipers coach Michael Nam Ouma.

This tourney will be held in Dar es Salaam between August 1st – 15th.

KCCA FC won the most recent edition in 2019 in Rwanda when they beat Azam FC 1-0 thanks to Mustafa Kizza’s goal.
