CECAFA confirms new dates for Zonal Women’s Champions League qualifiers

Lady Doves will represent Uganda in the qualifiers after winning the FUFA Women Super League at Njeru

CECAFA has finally revealed new dates for the inaugural Zonal CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

The qualifiers will take place between August 28th to September 9th in Nairobi, Kenya.

Initially, the qualifiers were meant to kick off on 17th July but were postponed to 7th August.

CECAFA later announced that the qualifiers were postponed again following the unavailability of the Kasarani Stadium which was meant to host the games.

Auka Gecheo, the Executive Director, confirmed the new dates on Tuesday night.

“We have finally agreed with the Football Kenya Federation on the new dates and the qualifiers will take place. We shall also re-do the draw to have two pools with four teams each,” said Gecheo via Cecafa Online.

In the earlier draw conducted last month three teams were placed in each of the three groups. However, Rwanda’s Scadinavian WFC pulled out leaving one pool with two teams.

The games will be played at both Kasarani Stadium and Nyayo Stadium with the eventual winning team progressing to the first ever CAF Women’s Champions League to be held in Egypt later this year.

Participating Teams; Vihiga Queens (Kenya), Lady Doves WFC (Uganda), PVP FC (Burundi), Simba Queens (Tanzania), Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (Ethiopia), Yei Joint Stars FC (South Sudan), New Generation (Zanzibar), FAD (Djibouti).
