Ethiopia, South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo(Guests) will not be part of this year’s CECAFA senior challenge cup to be hosted in Uganda.

CECAFA General Secretary Nicholas Musonye explains why.
He said;

“In February 2019, we had a CECAFA conference in Ethiopia and agreed that each nation should contribute a fee of 20,000 dollars to pool together and help facilitate the tournament. Those who did not pay were kicked out”.

Musonye also tasked the media to help be supportive to the tournament and help pull numbers to watch the matches before thanking FUFA and government for the organisation and enabling environment respectively.

“I want to request you the media to be supportive to the tournament and help us get numbers to watch matches. I also want to thank FUFA for the organisation and thank the Ugandan government for the peace and security that has enabled us to have this tournament here”.

The CECAFA senior challenge cup is set to kick-start in Uganda on Saturday, 7th, December, 2019 but only 9 countries have confirmed participation. Namely; Uganda (hosts), Burundi, Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, Djibouti, Tanzania, Kenya and Zanzibar.
