Hosts Uganda got off the mark with a 2-1 victory over Burundi in a Group A game played at Lugogo on Saturday evening.
Bright Anukani and Fahad Bayo scored for the Cranes in the first half while Cedric Rusarenga Danny pulled one back for Burundi.
Bayo was unlucky to see his third minute goal cancelled for offside but five minutes later Anukani put the Cranes into an early lead.
The Proline FC starlet then set up Bayo who beat Fabien Mutombora with a low finish to make it 2-0 in the 22nd minute of the game.
Burundi reduced the deficit thanks to Rusarenga penalty in the 60th minute following a handball by John Revita in the box.
Bayo together with Allan Okello were denied by the woodwork each.
Jonathan McKinstry brought on Nicholas Kasozi for Shafiq Kagimu and later introduced Muzamir Mutyaba and Joackim Ojera for Anukani and Viane Ssekajugo respectively.
Uganda leads the Group A table with three points after Somalia and Djibouti played a goalless draw in the opening game.
The Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup will continue on Sunday with Group B fixtures where Tanzania and Kenya face off at 4:00pm at Lugogo.
