Cape Town beat Sundowns 4-2 on penalties in the MTN8 semifinal second leg contest at Lucas Moripe Stadium to set up a repeat of last year’s final against Supersport United.

Sundowns needed to win by 2-0 to storm the final and hit the front in the 25th minute courtesy of a Tony Silva tap in to level the scores on aggregate.

The visitors responded brilliantly and Craig Martin almost provided the equalizer as he unleashed a shot but Sundowns custodian Denis Onyango was equal to the task a pulled off a spectacular save. At the break, Tony Silva strike separated both sides.

In the second period, the two sides could not find the net and the contest went straight to penalties as both legs ended with an identical scoreline in favour of the home side.

Cape Town goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburg was the hero as he denied Tony Silva and substitute Anthony Laffor in the shootout. Cape Town will meet Supersport whom they lost to last time on penalties.
