CAF confirms AFCON will be held in 2022

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has postponed the edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Cameroon from 2021 to 2022.

The postponement has been as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic which has hit the globe and led to cancellation and postponement of many football activities.

It was confirmed by the CAF Executive online meeting which has been held today Tuesday 30th June 2020.

The Championship of African Nations (CHAN) which was initially slated for April 2020 has been rescheduled for January 2021.

CAF also launched the inaugural Women’s Champions League which will be held in 2021.

Another key decision made in the meeting was the cancellation of the 2020 African Women’s Cup of Nations due to the pandemic.

Uganda has officially withdrawn a hosting bid for the 2020 Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations and a new tournament host will be determined either in 2020 or 2021.

The semi finals of the CAF Champions and Confederation Cup will be held in a single legged basis.

The Champions league semi final and final will be held in Cameroon while the Confederation Cup will be in Morocco.
