Rayon Sport and Gor Mahia played out to a 1-1 stalemate in the first leg of the CAF confederations cup group D encounter. In a game that saw Ugandan international Godfrey Walusimbi feature.
Gor Mahia started the game on the front foot and in the 10th minute, Meddie Kagere gave them an early lead after great passing in the build up to the goal.
The home side was not outdone despite going a goal down and leveled matters in the 25 minute through Eric Rutanga’s clinical finish.
Rayon Sport was the dominant side for the remainder of the first stanza, but they were lacking in the final third. The visitors also struggled to use the ball well in advanced positions thus going into the break with the scores level.
The second half was not as entertaining as the first period with both sides creating limited chances. Gor Mahia dominated the possession in the second stanza but their finishing in front of goal left a lot to be desired.
Rayon Sport on the other hand lacked were unable to keep the ball due to lack of imagination in midfield. A stalemate was enough for both sides basing on the poor display exhibited in the second period.
In another group D encounter, Tanzania’s Young Africans suffered a 3-0 defeat to USM Alger.
Rayon Sport return to action in the CAF Confederation Cup on Wednesday, May 16th away to Young Africans while Gor Mahia will host USM Alger on the same day.
