Francis Kahata’s second half goal was enough to eject SuperSport United from the CAF confederations cup tournament on away goals rule despite the South Africans scoring twice on the day.
The Kenyans did not have Rwandan international Jacques Tuyisenge who scored the only goal of the game in the first leg in Kenya 2 weeks ago and Ephrem Guikan who did not travel with the team to South Africa due to visa technicalities.
Ugandan’s left back Godfery Walusimbi has not come back to the ranks at GorMahia since he fell out with the hierarchy over unpaid arrears.
The K’ogalo held their hosts to a goalless first half but on return, Shakava was on target for the South Africans after only 14 minutes in the second to give the home side a well deserved lead.
Supersport United lead was short-lived as Francis Kahata scored an equaliser for the visitors only one minute later.
Mnyamane gave restored the hosts’ lead with a second goal in the 68th minute but the average score was still level as the first leg had ended 1-0 in favour of the Kenyans back in Nairobi two weeks ago.
Gor Mahia who last played a South African side in CAF competitions in 1993 when they eliminated Helenics on away goals rule with a 3-3 aggregates in the CAF cup, made history when they became the first Kenyan side to reach the group stages of the CAF confederations cup.
The draws for the group stages will be conducted on Saturday 21st, April, 2018.
