Jamal Salim Magola and his Al Hilal Omdurman side fell short of making it to the quarter finals of this season’s CAF Champions League after finishing third in Group B with 11 points.

Jamal and teammates were eliminated on the last day of the group stages after a 1-1 draw with Egypt’s Al Ahly who progressed to the knock out phase.

Going into the sixth game of the campaign, Al Hilal needed nothing but a home win over their Egyptian opponents so as to book a ticket in the next round.

Al Ahly took the lead three minutes into the second period courtesy of Mohamed Magdi Afsha but Abdel Razig Omer made it 1-1 in the closing stages of the encounter.

The other group game saw Etoile du Sahel defeat FC Platinum of Zimbabwe 2-0 in Rades, Tunisia to emerge as group winners.

Etoile du Sahel finished with 12 points, one better than the second placed Al Ahly and two more than Jamal Salim’s Al Hilal.

The two teams completed a perfect quarter final line up that only consists of former CAF Champions League winners with a total of 29 titles among them.

Other quarter finalists are Mamelodi Sundowns, Zamalek SC, Raja Casablanca, Wydad Casablanca, TP Mazembe and Esperance de Tunis.

The draw of the quarter finals will be held on 5th February in Egypt.
