• Vipers SC (Uganda) vs El Merrikh (Sudan)
Vipers SC will be seeking to advance to the next round of the CAF Champions league when they host Sudanese giants El Merreikh for the second leg of the preliminary round on Wednesday 5th December at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
El Merreikh come into this contest with the first leg advantage following their dramatic 2-1 victory over Vipers SC last week at Omdurman Stadium, Khartoum.Bakri Almadina and Ibrahim Altag were on target before Dan Sserunkuma got the Uganda’s champions a life line.
Javier Martinez Espinoza the Vipers tactician is confident that his charges will be able overcome the task at hand.
“We are ready and everyone is well prepared for the contest. We expect victory tomorrow though it will be a tough contest for us but the players are ready and in great conditions.”
Serunkuma will have to be at his best if at all the venoms stand a chance of qualification
We have to be very aggressive and offensive tomorrow if we are to progress to the next round. El Merreikh is great side with good players but we are to depend on our own strength to advance.” Stated Martinez
Uganda’s representatives will again be without first choice custodian Fabien Mutombora through a knee injury. Bashir Asiku and Steven Mukwala are also out of this contest. The good news is that striker Davis Kasirye is fit and available for selection.
Moses Waiswa, Dan Sserunkuma, Abraham Ndugwa and Bashir Sekagya will be tasked to inspire the hosts to dreamland.
Mohamed Abdallah Mazda coached side will look up Bakri Almadina and Ibrahim Altag and their past CAF adventure to progress.
Vipers SC need a 1-0 victory to progress to the next round while a draw will see the Sudanese giants through to the next round of qualification.
So, will El Merreikh’s experience or exuberance win the day? What is certain is that neither side will seek to simply negate the threat of the other but will trust their own qualities to take them to the promised land.
The aggregate winner of this tie will face the victor between Gambia’s Gamtel and Algeria’s Constantine FC.
