Uganda Cranes and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Masinde Onyango was named the best goalkeeper in Africa for the year 2018.
Onyango was named in the best eleven of the year at the 2018 CAF Awards ceremony in Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday night.
“Mr. Safe hands” was a pillar in Uganda’s march back to the AFCON finals but also stood out for his club Sundowns in South Africa.
The best XI consists of Serge Aurier, Mehdi Benatia, Khalidou Koulibaly, Naby Keita, Eric Baily, Thomas Partey, Riyad Mahrez, Pierre Emmerick Aubameyang, Saido Mane and Mohammed Salah.
Salah won the African player of the year award for the second time in a row.
The Uganda Cranes lost to Mauritania on the national team of the year award in Men’s category.
Uganda’s Derrick Nsibambi also lost to South Africa and Houston’s Dash’s starlet Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana on the goal of the year award.
Kgatlana also won the best female player of the year award.
Uganda was represented by the Federation President Moses Magogo, the federation C.E.O Edgar Watson Ssuubi, Onyango himself and the Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre.
