South Sudan 2-5 Burundi
East African neighbours Burundi have beaten South Sudan in a 7 goal thriller to edge closer to sealing qualification for the first time in their footballing history.
The only time they came closer was 24 years ago when lost on penalties to Guinea in a play off in 1994.
The result put them on top of group C with 9 points, Gabon and Mali trail them with 8 and 7 points respectively and they have to face off tomorrow in Libreville.
Burundi’s hero on the day was Fiston Abdul Razak who struck 3 goals fighting from a goal down after Atak Lual had opened the scoring for South Sudan.
The other goals for Burundi were scored by Cedric Amissi and Saido Berahino whereas Dominic Aboy scored Sudan ‘s second.
Burundi will now have to watch the match in Libreville with a keen eye as they wait to take on Gabon at the Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium on Match 22nd.
