Amidst fears, reports and accusations that the FUFA Drum was designed to rival the Buganda Masaza cup, FUFA president Moses Magogo met the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga with an objective of explaining to him about the advantages of the competition and it’s importance to Ugandan football development.
The Katikkiro expressed his fears to Magogo concerning the timing, fixtures and availability of players for both competitions. He said,
“Initially we had a fear that the Drum would rival Masaza but Magogo has explained to me well, it will not intervene Masaza, but it will also continue to look for new talent, and the most important thing those who will be playing in the Drum play in the premier league and big league and Masaza players lay in the lower divisions.”
” The only concern is about the fixtures and time, we hope the two tournaments won’t clash in time of play because some of the young players may be eligible for both the Drum and Masaza ”
The premier concluded by highlighting the benefits of his meeting with Magogo, most important of which is the exchange of ideas.
“We have exchanged ideas, learned from another and adopted collective measures where necessary “.
FUFA president Moses Magogo commended the Katikkiro for his unrivalled spirit and desire of developing football in country.
“We are very excited that he is interested in the development of football, we have very many hours of discussion, he told us about his worries about the FUFA Drum and many people had the same but we explained to him about the advantages of the competition that its not against the Masaza cup”.
” It’s been a long awaited meeting, an opportunity for us to meet the leader of the Katikkiro’s calliber, he is one of the leaders I look up to, he is an inspiration to us all”.
” He leads a very big institution , you can see the changes that have come out of his leadership but most importantly he is a football fan, he attends the Uganda Cranes, he dons the Cranes jersey and he is very passionate about the game.
