Goalkeeper Simon Tamale is one of the 34 players that were summoned by Abdallah Mubiru for the forthcoming international friendly game against South Africa.
The Soltilo Bright Stars goalkeeper has been in fine form since taking over the club’s gloves from the injured duo of Godwin Buule Kiwanuka and Benson Wegima.
Tamale expressed his delight upon being selected among the four goalkeepers on Abdallah Mubiru’s list,
” I feel so great for my first time call up on the national team the Cranes that is going to play in an international friendly against South Africa. I’m so happy because this is my first time and I must say this is my most wonderful league (season).”
Tamale said in an interview with Soltilo Bright Stars media.
” I would like to thank our fans out there, our sponsors and the management of team Bright Stars because they gave given us an opportunity and everything so that Tamale is on form.”
” I wish I will make it to the team that will travel to South Africa.”
Ever since Tamale replaced Wegima during their 3-2 win over Wakiso Giants, he has kept a total of six clean sheets in 10 games across all competitions.
He has won two Pilsner Man of the match accolades (against KCCA and BUL FC) and saved two penalties (against Wakiso Giants and MYDA) on top of making a good number of saves and providing one assist.
South Africa based Ismail Watenga, KCCA’s Charles Lukwago and Azam FC’s Mathias Kigonya are the other goalkeepers named in the 34-man squad.
