Maroons Fc got their first win of the season with a narrow 1-0 win away to Bright Stars. The goal that sealed Asaph Mwebaze’s side win came in the 68th minute courtesy of a long range shoot taken by Felix Okot from the centre that kissed the cross bar to the net.
In the first Stanza Maroons looked the better side making restless attacks from forwards Solomon Walusimbi and William Kiibi but they couldn’t find away through a defensively organized Bright Stars commanded by Innocent Asiimwe, thus going into half time goalless.
The home side started the second half brilliantly and their best chance of the game fell to talisman Nelson Ssenkatuka whose half volley in the 48th minute kissed the bar.
Maroons however gained confidence as it was in the first half pressing for that important goal, the pressure finally paid off with Maroons hitting the front in the 68th minute thanks to Midfielder Felix Okot’s goal which was enough to accumulate all the three points in Mwerwerwe.
Asaph Mwebaze was delighted with his team’s performance,
“It was a good display from the boys and above all we have got our first three points of the season. We created a lot of chances today but our finishing was poor, the good thing is we have won and that’s what matters most especially at a difficult opponent like Bright Stars.”
Coach Paul Kiwanuka who was on the touchline for Bright stars expressed his disappointment from today’s result;
“We have created many chances with most of them hitting goal posts, lack wasn’t on our side . We have done some reckless mistakes which have hindered today’s results,so its upon us the technical team to work upon them before our next fixture that’s KCCA Fc at Lugogo”
This was the first win for the Prisons side and it puts them in 12th place on 5 points, Felix Okot also goes into records as the first player to score for Maroons this season.
They play Sc Villa next at home on 17th October.
