Birungi’s goal came four minutes after Nyamityobora had levelled the scoreline through an Alex Komakech penalty.

Asaph Mwebaze was dealt by the absence of almost the full senior team and resorted to naming a much changed eleven that had Hillary Jomi, Barni Calvin, Charles Sebutinde, Charles Musiige and captain Komakech as the only recognized regulars.

Mwebaze made an early substitution in the 12th minute bringing on young defender Shafik Mavuma for Muhammad Yiga who was visibly not playing in line with the game plan.

Express were the dominant side from the onset and capitalized on the inexperience of their depleted opponents.

The Red Eagles surged forward through Birungi, Badru Nsubuga, Mubarak Nsubuga and Joel Male but had to wait until the 24th minute to draw first blood.

Workaholic midfielder Badru Nsubuga found the back of the net from about 10 yards in a follow up of Male’s wasted keeper to beat chance.

Ten minutes later, Birungi almost doubled the lead with a fine right footed curler only to be denied by the well stretched Jomi gloves for a corner kick.

The resultant corner kick saw Cameroonian import Barni Calvin making a goal line clearance to deny the rampant home side with Jomi already beaten.

Kefa Kisala was forced into a change as an injured Mubarak Nsubuga couldn’t continue and his slot was taken up by Eric Kambale.

Youngster and fans darling Billy Nkata made his first season appearance after replacing an unproductive Male at the start of the second half but his introduction made more less the same impact.

Birungi came close again in the 70th minute after swiftly beating four defenders before his hard shot rattled the cross bar.

Four minutes later, Nyamityobora were awarded a penalty by referee Aisha Semambo after John Revita blundered and brought down Innocent Ronald in the forbidden area.

Komakech who had scored in the similar fashion against Ndejje University in the previous game, flawlessly sent Mathias Muwanga the wrong way.

Hopeful of a positive result, Nyamityobora were punished for their sluggish defending when an unmarked Birungi received a Disan Galiwango delivery at the edge of the 6 yards box to calmly slot in the winner past an onrushing Jomi.

Both Express goal scorers, Birungi and Nsubuga together with Male were the only cautioned players on the evening.

The result propelled Kisala’s men to the 8th place with 19 points while Nyamityobora stay second from the bottom with 7 points.

Express will take on Maroons FC at Luzira in their subsequent fixture on Thursday 3rd January whereas Nyamityobora will lock horns with fellow newbies and strugglers Paidha Black Angels on the same day.
