South Sudan has finally revealed their preliminary squad for the forthcoming CECAFA U23 tournament to be held in Ethiopia.
The summoned team consists of 31 players and will be under Simon James Yor who was named as the new U-23 coach on Wednesday.
It should be remembered that Yor was also in charge of the U-20 South Sudan team that won bronze in the CECAFA U-20 tournament held in Uganda in 2019.
Yor’s 31-man squad consists of five Uganda Premier League players.
These are Vipers roving right back Joseph Dhata Steven, Mbarara City lanky forward Makweth Wol Akeen, Ezra Bida, Ivan Wani Marcelo and Soltilo Bright Stars striker Emmanuel Loki.

Ezra Bida is a former Uganda U-17 player having been among the Cubs squad that competed in the AFCON U17 qualifiers in 2014.
The team was under the tutelage of Mattia Lule and had the likes of Shaban Muhammad, Frank Zaga Tumwesigye, Alex Komakech, Pius Obuya among others.
Dhata, Makweth and Wani have been regulars in South Sudan’s selection in the senior team docket.
Striker Emmanuel Loki formerly of Buddo SS, had his debut season in the Uganda Premier League with Soltilo Bright Stars last season.
Former Busoga United left back Julius Debbo is also among the squad but currently plays for Malakia FC in the South Sudan League.
The CECAFA U23 tournament will kick off on 17th July. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the South Sudan contingent was delayed in Qatar where they had gone for a FIFA Arab Cup encounter against Oman.
The contingent left Qatar on Wednesday night but three unrevealed players were left in quarantine.
