KCCA head coach Mike Mutebi has hailed the progress of defender Timothy Awanyi that has seen him become a pillar at the club.
Awanyi is yet to break into the Cranes starting eleven with Desabre opting for a pairing of Murushid Juuko and Hassan Wasswa but the KCCA head coach insists his player has earned the right to make one of the starting places in defence for the national team.
” I can authoritatively say that Awanyi is the best player today in Uganda and he should be a starter on the national team”
Mutebi said during a post match conference after KCCA’s elimination from the CAF confederation cup at the hands of AS Otoho.
” His maturity, game reading and composure is not equalled by any of our players”
KCCA beat Congolese champions AS Otoho 2-0 but fell shot of overturning the huge loss suffered in Congo.
The tactician also blamed KCCA’s exit to the substandard performance of the officials who he thinks was too way below standard.
” “The refereeing was half hazard and we should have gotten a few penalties especially the foul on Kyambadde”.
” We suffered from the same skewed decisions in Congo and I think the level of refereeing should be improved”.
- KCCA will now have to embark on the local league and Uganda Cup if they are to bounce back next year.
