Bayo, Sserunkuma on target as Vipers overcome Kyetume

Vipers SC saw off Kyetume FC 2-1 at Mandela National Stadium on Tuesday to extend their stay at the top of the Uganda Premier League table.

Fahad Bayo and Dan Sserunkuma netted for the three time league champions while Robert Sentongo found a consolation for the home side.

Bayo headed home a quality Paul Willa cross after five minutes for his first away goal and seventh of the campaign.

Sserunkuma doubled the visitors advantage in the 15th minute from a penalty kick after defender Benon Tahomora brought down Bayo inside the box.

On 27 minutes, Bayo had a decent chance to extend his side’s lead but was denied by goalie Joel Mutakubwa.

In the second period, Edward Golola’s side rarely troubled the slaughters keeper Mutakubwa.

Veteran forward Ssentongo pulled a goal back in the 56th minute, thereafter, George Best Nsimbe’s charges grew in belief.

Kyetume pressed for the equalizer but couldn’t breakdown a resilient Venoms’ back line.

Vipers who remain as the only unbeaten side in the league maintain top spot on the table with 24 points and four above second placed BUL FC. They next face Busoga United on Saturday 2nd November.

Kyetume FC who next travel to BUL FC on Friday 1st November are now 7th placed on the log with 13 points garnered in nine games.
