“We expect to have a great tournament and it great that action will resume on Sunday, we have been missing basketball and we can’t wait for kick off. I can assure the Basketball fans that we shall have alot of entertainment and I am confident the teams will give us a good experience.” Stated Rugyendo.

The lower divisions began in 2003 with 16 teams battling out in the Makerere open tournament, with the 8 quarterfinalists forming the then division 1 ( current NBL) and the other 8 forming the then division 2 ( current division 1). The lower leagues have since evolved leading to a formation of a third category currently referred to as the Division 2 as of 2019.

Last year, 16 teams took part in Division 1 men’s category, 11 in the women’s category and 13 in Division 2. This year 16, 13 and 14 teams are to take part respectively.

The 2018 Division 1 finalists, KU and Falcons BC in the men’s category and YMCA Lady Hamstars and MUK Sparks in the women’s category are in the NBL 2019 while Division 2 finalists, Namuwongo Blazers and IUEA are part of the 2019 Division 1.
