Shafik Bakaki scored a late header to salvage a 1-1 draw for SC Villa against arch rivals Express at Wankulukuku.
Bakaki headed home a long Habib Kavuma free kick in the 82nd minute five minutes after Disan Galiwango had put Express in the lead.
The result however leaves SC Villa three points above the relegation red line with four games to play.
Both sides were presented with a host of goal scoring chances but none was so prolific to find the back of the net until the final 15 minutes.
Eric Kambale, Brian Umony and Michael Birungi came close for the home side but couldn’t find the target.
Likewise, Ambrose Kirya and John Adriko squandered Villa’s glorious chances on the evening.
It all seemed to be a goalless draw but Galiwango had different ideas. The left wing back received the ball from outside the box before outpacing Bakaki and firing home a low shot that beat Yusuf Wasswa in the Villa goal with 13 minutes to normal time.
Moments later, Bakaki retaliated with a leveller after rising highest from the crowd to nod home Kavuma’s delivery and ultimately denied his former paymasters a win over their sworn rivals.
Express’ Badru Nsubuga was booked for bringing down David Owori while Moses Kiggundu was the only Villa player booked by referee Brian Miiro Nsubuga.
Express will visit KCCA in their next match on Saturday 20th April whereas Villa play host to fellow relegation candidates Ndejje on Tuesday 16th April.
