Azerbaijan club express interest in Ugandan striker

Azerbaijan Premier League side Sabah Football Club are interested in signing former Vipers forward Henry Kitegenyi.

Swift Sports understands that the player will depart for Azerbaijan for a two weeks trial stint when the current Coronavirus restrictions are lifted.

The Azerbaijani club is to cover for Kitegenyi’s flight ticket and accommodation during the trial.

Kitegenyi has been featuring for FUFA Big League side Kansai Plascon, a side he played for before joining Vipers at the start of the previous season.

Sabah Football Club is an Azerbaijani professional football club based in Masazır, founded on 8th September 2017. The team plays in the Azerbaijan Premier League, their top tier of Azerbaijani football.

Magsud Adigozalov is the Club President and is managed by Croatian Željko Sopić.

The club hosts its home games at the Alinja Arena in Masazır, which has a capacity of 13,000.

Last season, they finished sixth with 21 points on the 8-team log as the football season was prematurely ended on 19th June.

Should Kitegenyi complete his move to Sabah FC, he will become the second Ugandan player to feature in the Azerbaijan topflight league after Farouk Miya who played for Sabail FK in 2018.
