Timothy Awanyi was the hero as KCCA FC ended URA FC’s unbeaten run with a 1-0 victory at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The tax collectors had gone 17 games without tasting league defeat since, a streak stretching from the closing stages of last season.

URA FC were the dominant side throughout the game but failed to make perfect of the numerous opportunities they created.

The best chance for the visitors in the first period fell to youngster Allan Okello who failed to hit the target off Herbet Achai’s quality cross.

Peter Lwasa, Joachim Ojera and Charles Sempa Charles also had great chances to fire the homeside into the lead but their finishing was wanting. The first period saw both sides settle for a goalless draw.

Early in the second period, Sam Simbwa introduced on Moses Sseruyidde for Ojera.

In the 56th minute, KCCA FC captain Awanyi led by example when he fired the table leaders into the lead with a powerful shot.

Allan Okello had a chance to double KCCA FC’s lead but his effort off a Julius Poloto cross went wide.

With the clock ticking, KCCA FC’s custodian Charles Lukwago made a finger tip save to deny Shafik Kagimu. Moments later Saidi Kyeyune failed to tap in a great URA move orchestrated by Kagimu.

Mike Mutebi introduced on Isaac Kirabira for Gift Ali, Eric Ssenjobe for Muzamir Mutyaba and Allan Kyambadde for Allan Okello. The tax collectors also withdrew Peter Lwasa for Steven Munguchi.

Patrick Kaddu of KCCA and URA’s Siraje Sentamu were the only players to be cautioned by the referee.

Victory extends KCCA FC’s lead at the summit with 36 points garnered while URA FC is 6th with 21 points.
