Relegation threatened side Express Football club started the fight for survival with a goalless draw away against Onduparaka FC at the Green light stadium in Arua.

Express coach handed debuts to 6 new players but most notably was young custodian Tony Kyamera who was selected ahead of Godwin Buule. On the other hand Onduparaka had Yafesi Mubiru a former Express striker leading the line.

From the onset, the game looked an open one but surprisingly ended goalless with neither sides finding the back of the net.

Onduparaka’s bluntness in the final third continued with Yafesi Mubiru the biggest culprit in failing to bury at least one of the many chances created on the day.

Youngster Ezra Bida found the back of the net in the 25th minute with a diving header after a spade work from Vianey Sekajugo but the goal was cancelled for offside by the linesman.

Express’ Alfred Leku also came close to punishing his former side on a number of occasions but most notable was in the 40th minute when Nicholas Sebwato rose up-to the occasion to deny him from a long range effort.

After the half time break, Onduparaka opted for a more attacking approach bring on Moses Ndawula (46′) for Rajab Kakooza and later Ceaser Okhuti (66′) for Yafesi Mubiru.

Tension mounted on either sides but mostly on the visitor’s sides as Onduparaka missed finding a winner inside the last 10 minutes of the game through Ceaser Okhuti, Rashid Okocha and right back Alex Adriko Gasper.

Defenders Ayub Kisalita and Omar Hitimana together with goalkeeper Kyamera kept a cool head in the last kicks to ensure the Shafik Bisaso coached men walk away with a point.

The stalemate implies Express remains second last on the Azam Uganda Premier League table with 12 points garnered while Onduparaka remains comfortably fourth with 26 points.

Onduparaka will make a trip to Vipers in the next match while Express’ next task will be at Wankulukuku as they take on BUL FC on Tuesday 13th.
