Kirinya Jinja SS earned a slim 1-0 away victory over Masavu FC. The only goal came as early as the 5th minute of the game scored by Faisal Muwawu.
It was a route one goal, as Kirinya Jinja SS goalkeeper Emmanuel Lubangkene kicked the ball from a goal kick which bounced into Muwawu’s path to shoot from a long range catching Mansoor Mutumba off his line.
The hosts pressed hard for an equaliser and in the 17th minute Robert Ssentongo Junior failed to convert from a keeper to beat opportunity.
Towards the halftime, Kirinya Jinja SS’ Musa Esenu found the back of the net through a header but he was ruled offside.
Both teams kept on pressing hard but all efforts were fruitless as none could find a goal.
In the 78th minute Faisal Muwawu went down and after being attended to, Masavu skipper Mansoor Mutumba grabbed the kit and threw it outside the field citing time wasting leading him to be booked for the second time this season.
Kirinya Jinja SS head coach Charles Ayiekho praised his team for the hard fought for victory and he reminded them to keep the focus and push for the top 5 places. He said,
“I am very grateful that we have got the maximum points in an away game and the boys did exactly what I told them by scoring an early goal and defending it. I have always trusted Faisal Muwawu and today he hasn’t disappointed me.”
“These points have moved us away from negative end of the table. I expect more goals from Muwawu and Musa Esenu because they know what they want. I still have my target of finishing among the best five in the league and with this squad I know I will.” Ayiekoh added.
Kirinya Jinja SS lies second on the table with eight points as Masavu is sixteenth with three points. Kirinya Jinja SS is to host Proline as Masavu visits UPDF on 17 September and 21 September respectively.
