Ghana’s all time goal scorer Asamoah Gyan has made a remarkable U-turn and rescinded his decision to retire from international football following a call from president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.
The 33 year old striker had announced his retirement from the national team following reports that he would be dropped from the captaincy role by head coach Kwassi Appiah and he was preparing to name Andre Ayew for the same.
“A presidential request is one that cannot be disregarded,”
“I have taken the request of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in good faith and will make myself available for selection by coach Kwasi Appiah to help win the AFCON trophy.”
Said the FC Kayserispor striker .
The president called him on telephone and informed him of the considerable national discontent over his decision to retire.
Ghana will start their campaign on 25th June 2019 against Benin. They are pitted in group F alongside hosts Cameron and Guinea Bissau
