Three time COSAFA winners Angola have withdrawn from the 2019 event in Durban citing the need to complete their league season and preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations as the reasons.
Angola had been pitted in group A alongside eSwatini, Mauritius and Comoros. Their withdraw means that only three teams will contest for a place in the quarterfinals and set up a date with defending champions Zimbabwe on June 1st 2019.
The event will kick off on Saturday 25th May with a clash between eSwatini and Mauritius at the King Zwelithini Stadium. eSwatini will then lock horns with Comoros on 27th May before Comoros and Mauritius round off group A two days later. The competition will run until June 8th.
Six top ranked countries will kick start the competition at the quarterfinal stage. These are; Lesotho, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and guest nation Uganda
Defending champions Zimbabwe are the record holders on six trophies since the tournament inception in 1997. South Africa comes second with four Championships.
