Al Ahly to face Wydad in Champions League final

Record champions Al Ahly will face off with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in this season’s final of the CAF Champions League.

This comes after Al Ahly beat Algeria’s Entente Setif 6-2 on aggregate in the semi final.

The Egyptian giants won the first leg 4-0 in Cairo before settling for a 2-2 draw in Algiers, Algeria.

The Pitso Mosimane coached side will be seeking for their third straight Champions League title having won the last two editions against Zamalek and Kaizer Chiefs.

Wydad also qualified for the final after winning 4-2 on aggregate against Angola’s Petro Atletico de Luanda.

The Moroccan giants won the first leg 3-1 in Luanda, Angola before settling for a 1-1 draw in the second in Casablanca.

The final is scheduled to be played in Casablanca, Morocco on Monday 30th May.

However Al Ahly have filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport over the choice of venue.

Al Ahly want the venue of the final to be changed since the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca is also the home ground for their opponents.

Caf insists Morocco were the only candidates to host the match after Senegal, the other bidder, withdrew from the race.

Al Ahly are targeting their 11th CAF Champions League title while Wydad will be aiming for their third title.

Wydad’s most recent triumph came in 2017 against Al Ahly courtesy of a 2-1 aggregate score.

The CAF Confederation Cup final will be between South Africa’s Orlando Pirates and Morocco’s RS Berkane on Friday 20th May in Nigeria.
