Al Ahly left it late to defeat fellow Egyptian rivals Zamalek 2-1 in the final of the 2019/20 CAF Champions League at the Cairo International Stadium.

Mohamed Magdi Afsha scored the winning goal for Al Ahly in the 86th minute to ensure victory for the Pitso Mosimane coached side.

Midfielder Amr El Soleya had given Al Ahly an early lead but Zamalek skipper Shikabala led by example to tie the game at 1-1.

Soleya headed home a perfect corner kick from Ali Maloul as early as the 5th minute while Shikabala scored with a solo left footed beauty in the 30th minute.

The title was Mosimane’s second as a coach and automatically elevated him to the elite group of three coaches who have won the CAF Champions League with two different clubs.

Al Ahly now add a ninth star on their badge having won the Champions League on nine occasions.

They have previously triumphed in 1982, 1987, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2013.
