Airtel Uganda injects UGX650M in 2021 Masaza Cup tournament

The 2021 Masaza Cup tournament has officially been launched today at Bulange Mengo, Kampala.

The function was graced by the second Deputy Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro and minister of finance, investment, planning and economic development Owek. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa who represented Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga currently on vacation at the official launch.

Minister for Recreation, Sports and Leisure Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu, Masaza Cup organizing committee chairman Sulaiman Ssejjengo, FUFA Deputy CEO Decolas Kizza, officials from main sponsors Airtel and Centenary bank were also in attendance.

The development was confirmed by the telecommunications Public Relations Manager David Birungi who represented Managing Director, Manoj Murali at the official launch.

“Airtel has contributed Shs650 million towards the tournament and I believe this will go a long way in aiding the preparation of all the planned activities that will see the tournament register the anticipated success.”

“With support from partners like Airtel Uganda, we are able to develop the talent of young people through Masaza Cup and we recognize their continued contribution among other activities they participate in that are organized by the Kingdom.”

Nsibirwa confirmed that Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will officially open the 17th edition of the prestigious competition on Saturday at the Njeru Technical centre.

Meanwhile, each team received two sets of Jerseys,four balls and Shs4M cash each from the Buganda Kingdom.

Centenary Bank who are the other sponsors of the tournament also announced a sponsorship package worthy Shs165M.

This year, the winners will receive winning prize money of Shs12M, runners up Shs9M, third placed team Shs7M and the team that will finish fourth will bag Shs5M.

Defending champions Gomba will kickoff their title defense on Saturday against Kyadondo at the Njeru Technical centre.

Muganzirwaza: Buddu, Busujju, Mawogola, Buwekula, Butambala

Bulange: Busiro, Bugerere, Kyaggwe, Buvuma
