At the press conference convened at Serena Hotel Kampala today 6th November 2017, Airtel has announced a contract renewal of their sponsorship for the Uganda national team the Cranes.
The deal will see Airtel contribute a total of 10 billion shillings towards the Cranes for next 4 years which will be paid annually in bits of 2.5 billion per year.
Announcing the deal, Airtel managing director Mr. V. G. Somasekhar expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to continue sponsoring the national team. He said,
” Since we signed the partnership agreement with the Ugandan national team, we have enjoyed a long list of successes both for the team and the individual players.
“To us, this is an indication that a strong partner that believes in you is a key component of success”.
“We remain committed to the development of Ugandan football right from the grassroots community level to the international scene.
Cranes captain Denis Onyango and assistant Hassan Wasswa were in presence to represent the team.
Aside from sponsoring the Cranes, Airtel supports the Uganda Cup, the FUFA big league, supports grassroot football through the Airtel rising stars initiative and they are the main sponsors of Buganda Masaza cup.
The extended deal was initially signed in 2013 under an agreement to promote Ugandan football not only for the national team but also the Uganda cup and the FUFA big league, the tournaments that feed talent to the national team.
