The preliminary round of the 2019 Airtel Rising Stars grand finals successfully concluded on Thursday in Nakawa Division, Kampala.

Several matches were played at UCIT facility in Nakawa in the boys category.

In some of the boys’ games that were played on Thursday, Buganda needed a Julius Owomukama strike to overcome Western Region 1-0 in a group A contest.

Still in the same group, Kitara edged Western 1-0 courtesy of a Simon Peter Hakim goal.

Jeremeya Jabera netted a brace and Yasin Sabrina scored the other goal as hosts Kampala humbled Eastern 3-1 in a group B tie.

Northern Region and Buganda both with seven points advanced to the semifinals from group A whereas Kitara on three points and Western with no point failed to progress.

Kampala with seven points and Eastern with four prevailed to the semis while North East and West Nile with three and two points respectively their journey ends at the group phase.

Jabera Jeremaya (Kampala region) is the leading goal scorer with six goals so far in the boys event.

Kampala and Buganda will lock horns in the first semifinal in the boys event whereas Northern Region and Eastern Region will contest for a place in the final.

The semifinals will take place on Friday 6th September at UCIT facility in Nakawa.

The National finals of the eighth edition of the event are slated for Saturday 7th at MUBS grounds in Kampala.
