Airtel, Buganda Kingdom confirm date for Kabaka birthday run


Airtel Uganda in partnership with the Buganda Kingdom and other partners have on Wednesday 4th March announced the date for the highly anticipated Kabaka Birthday Run at the event that was held at Bulange, Mengo.

The seventh edition of run will take place on Sunday 5th April 2020.

Under this year’s theme, Men against AIDS to save the girl child and running for the next three years, the Kabaka Birthday run will be focusing on driving awareness about HIV/AIDS and encouraging men to get tested and treated.

At the Press briefing, Airtel Uganda Managing Director V.G Somasekhar said

“Having created a lot of awareness towards Fistula and Sickle Cells over the past six years, we now want to shine more light onto HIV/AIDS. We shall be working with the Kingdom, other sponsors and the Ministry of Health to end HIV in the Kingdom. We call upon Ugandans to come in large numbers and support this cause.”

The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga urged the everyone to buy the tickets and support the cause. He also applauded Airtel and other partners for supporting the Kingdom

“We encourage everyone to go buy tickets and start exercising as well to prepare for the upcoming run. We are running for the cause and we would like to encourage men to go get tested and treated so as to protect the girl child.” We thank all our partners for the continued support.

“Airtel Uganda has been by our side in different Kingdom matters and we are grateful for this partnership.” He stated.

The Kabaka Birthday Run is annual event celebrated to mark the King’s birthday.

His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will flag off the run in Lubiri Mengo. The run will comprise of 5Km, 10Km and 21 routes. However there have been changes in the 10Km and 21Km routes

Tickets will cost 15000 and will be sold at selected Airtel Service Centres which include Ben Kiwanuka, Thobani Building on Kampala Road and New Taxi Park. They can also be purchased using Airtel Money.
